The Senior Bookkeeper is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, ensuring timely compliance with accounting and tax obligations, and providing exceptional client service. You will play a key role in managing client relationships, delivering high-quality bookkeeping services, and collaborating with the wider accounting team to support business performance and strategic decision-making.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the primary contact for day-to-day client needs, inquiries, and issues
  • Cultivate strong, long-term relationships by understanding each client’s financial and business objectives
  • Ensure client expectations are met and exceeded in every interaction
  • Deliver accurate and timely bookkeeping services, including accounts payable/receivable, payroll processing, bank reconciliations, and BAS preparation
  • Collaborate with accountants to ensure timely financial reporting and compliance
  • Identify financial or compliance risks for clients and assist in resolving them
  • Participate in client onboarding and transitions, ensuring a seamless experience
  • Identify opportunities to expand or enhance services based on client needs
  • Drive process improvements by leveraging accounting technologies and tools
  • Provide informal mentoring and support to junior team members

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • At least 10 years of experience in bookkeeping or accounting
  • Strong client management skills and a proactive service mindset
  • Advanced knowledge of Xero (and ideally other cloud-based systems)
  • Working knowledge of Australian BAS, GST, superannuation, and payroll
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving abilities
  • The ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
